Arts & culture journalist.
Book author.
Media professor.
Curious New Yorker.

I'm a journalist in New York City working as Things to Do Editor at Time Out New York where it’s my job to discover and document the best, most interesting things to do around town, from a fake art gallery to a DIY Manhattan walking tour to fascinating museum news. I’m a frequent TV guest on CBS New York and PIX11 sharing tips about how to explore New York City.

I’m also an adjunct professor at Pace University where I teach an undergraduate class titled Writing for the Electronic Media.

In my decade of journalism experience, I've written about some of the world's most powerful museum shows, most exciting artists, most thrilling dining experience, and more for publications including Saveur Magazine, Atlas Obscura, Thrillist, Business Insider, Hyperallergic, Google Arts & Culture, The Hechinger Report, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Pittsburgh City Paper, Pittsburgh Magazine, the Tribune-Review, Carnegie Magazine, About.com, and The Incline (here are a few work samples).

My first book, a guidebook about my hometown called "100 Things to Do in Pittsburgh Before You Die," became an Amazon bestseller. I hosted a TV show featuring people from the book and have been interviewed more than a dozen times about my work. I'm now researching my second book, this time a quirky guidebook to New York City.

With experience in digital journalism start-up leadership, local journalism, breaking news reporting, audience development, newsletter growth, social media strategy, and marketing, the common thread is my relentless curiosity and drive to help people feel more connected to their communities.

For that work, I was named to Pittsburgh's 40 Under 40 list, earned Hearken's Champion of Curiosity Award, and led my news site to NewsGuard's Unsung Hero award for credibility and transparency (here's more about all of that).

I'm a recent graduate of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. In this program for experienced journalists, I immersed myself in the arts while writing about everything from sculpture to tintype photography to the famed New York City knish. During my undergraduate studies at Penn State University, I served as editor-in-chief of the student newspaper The Daily Collegian while earning degrees in journalism and women's studies.

When I'm not writing, I'm reading something for the feminist book club I co-founded, running an Instagram account for a sassy cat, or photographing ghost signs. One more fun fact: I’m a certified water taste tester (seriously).
